A couple of days ago we had some trouble installing an HP Officejet 7410 on a Windows SBS 2003. There are a lot of available downloads from HP, but no functioning driver for SBS 2003.

After some Googling without results I’ve tried the HP ‘chat with an online technician’-service. Great service, they provided me with a solution and it was the most friendly, polite technician I’ve ever spoken with. Thanks Farris.

The solution:

  • You add a local printer and use the LPT1 port.
  • For the driver you choose the HP Deskjet 990C.
  • Open the properties of this new printer.
  • Change or add a TCP/IP port to use.
  • Print a testpage.
  • (rename the printer to not confuse your users)

I guess this works for other HP-printers as well. And if not use the HP chat.
